Week of January 12th

This week we will begin writing our outlines for our “How-To” presentations.  Students DO NOT need to start working on their presentations or videos at home yet.  The earliest that this projects will be due is Wednesday, January 28th.  I don’t set an initial due date because I like to see how the outlines and PowerPoints are coming along before I set a date.

We will be starting our Winter MAP testing this week.  We will test on Thursday of this week and also Thursday of next week.

Progress reports will be emailed home on Friday, January 16th this week.  Remember, these are not final grades but rather a snapshot of how they are doing midway through the 2nd trimester.

Wednesday, January 21st, is Family Reading Night.  Students are brining home a handout today with information regarding this event.

On Saturday, January 24th, my Varsity Boys’ Basketball team plays in our Interstate 8 Conference Tournament.  That is also the date of our Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser.  This year, my team is hosting a “Chili Dinner” from 3PM-7PM that night.  Tickets for the dinner are $5 and that includes chili, toppings, cornbread, dessert, and lemonade.  If you would be interested in purchasing a ticket, please let me know.  Money raised from the dinner is being donated to the American Cancer Society and local cancer patients.

Week of January 6th

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday.  It was nice to see the kids back at school this morning.  Here is some important information for this week:

I introduced a project to all of the students this morning that we will be starting the 2nd Semester off with.  This is our “How To” project.  Students will be presenting to the class “How To” do anything of their choice.  I am sending home an information sheet with the information about this project.  They are required to discuss what they would like for the topic to be with their parents, write the topic down on the paper, and return it with your signature.  For this project, they can either demonstrate their choice live here at school or they have record it at home and bring in the video.  Along with the demonstration, the students also have to create a PowerPoint in which they will present in front of the class here at school. These presentations are usually very informative and I really enjoy seeing the students show me “How To” do things they are good at.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Before we jump back into our math books, we are going to spend the 4 days this week reviewing material that we covered before break.  Do not expect much if any math homework this week.

There is a spelling test this week.  The students took their pre-test this morning and will be getting their lists today.
