Week of December 9th

We wrapped up our Social Studies unit last week on US Government.  We will be testing on that this Friday.  Students already received a study guide for the unit.  We will play a game in class on Thursday.

Musical practice will continue this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Just a reminder, the musical is next Thursday, December 19th.  There are 3 different show times:   9:00AM, 1:15PM, and 4:00PM.  In order to attend the 4:00PM show, please contact the office to order tickets because it is a dinner/theatre.  Tickets are $5 each.

The students have learned several different ways to multiply during our current math unit.  We will be finishing up the unit on Wednesday and having our Topic 8 test on Thursday.

We will be having our holiday party on Friday, December 20th.  If you volunteered to send something in, you may send that first thing in the morning with your child.

Week of December 2nd

This week we will be:

 - Starting Unit C in science
 - Continuing on with multiplication
 - Finishing up of Social Studies Unit on Government
 - Having a spelling test, but no spelling project
 - Finishing the novels we have been reading

Just a reminder, Wednesday is an 11:35AM Early Dismissal.  Please discuss with your child how he or she is supposed to get home if it is different than normal.

The CCIS Musical will be on December 19th.  Everyone is invited to attend.  There is a 4:00PM “Dinner Theatre” that tickets are being sold for.  Please contact the main office if you would like to purchase tickets.  You do not need tickets for the 9:00AM or 1:15PM performances that day.

Week of November 19th

I am sure that all of you are aware by now that school is on as usual tomorrow.  I know that several students, families, and community members were affected by yesterday’s storms.  Please continue to keep those people in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time.

Just a reminder that this is Grandparent’s Week at CCIS.  Our class is scheduled for Grandparent’s Day on Wednesday from 11:15-11:45AM.  All grandparents or family members that attend need to bring in ID as they will check in when they arrive.

There is a student council meeting Wednesday morning at 7:30AM.

CCIS T-Shirts should be in this week for those students that ordered them.

The School Store will be open this Friday for business from 7:40-8:05AM.  This Friday is also the first CCIS Parent-Principal Coffee Talk.  This runs from 8:00-9:00AM and all parents are welcome to attend.

Week of November 4th

This Wednesday, November 6th, we have an 11:35AM early dismissal.  Please discuss with your child how he/she will be getting home if there are different arrangements.

Last week was the 5th and final week of Unit 2 in reading.  We will be taking our Unit 2 skills test on Wednesday.  We will spend time on Monday and Tuesday reviewing for the test.  This test will be the last major reading grade for the first trimester.  Since we are taking the Unit Skills test this week, there is no spelling test or spelling project this week.  The end of the first trimester is this Friday, November 8th.  Report cards will be mailed a week from Friday, November 15th.

We will be taking our Unit B Science test on Friday of this week.  We will play a review game on Thursday.  Students should spend 10-15 minutes each night this week studying that way they are ready for the review game as well.

Thursday night is Astronomy Night at CCIS from 6:45-8:00PM.  Parents and families are welcomed to attend.  There will be a few high-tech telescopes available to look through.  Hot chocolate will also be served.

Week of October 28th

Here is some important information for this week:

Picture retakes are tomorrow, October 29th.  Any student that wishes to get retakes must bring in their original packet of pictures.  Students that were absent on picture day will also get their pictures taken.

If students would like to dress-up for Halloween, they are asked to bring in a non-perishable good item that we will donate to the food pantry.  Students can bring this item in any day before Thursday.

We will be taking our topic 5 math test on Tuesday.  We will go through a practice test today and students will have it to review.


Just a reminder, CCIS T-Shirt orders are due this coming Friday.  Please get those sent in this week.

We are entering our final week of Unit 2 in reading.  We will have a spelling test and project due this week.  There will be no spelling test or project next week as we will have our Unit 2 Reading Skills test.

Week of October 21st

This week is also Red Ribbon Week.  Here are the different dress-up days for the week:

Monday, October 21- Hats off to a drug free CCIS (hat day)
Tuesday- Too bright for drugs (neon colors and sunglasses day)
Wednesday- Follow your dreams and be drug free (PJ day)
Thursday- Sock it to drugs (crazy sock day)

On Monday, I will be sending home a pumpkin with each student.  Each student is to decorate the pumpkin however they would like.  Decorated pumpkins need to be returned to school by Thursday.  Parents and other teachers will be voting on the pumpkins during Conferences.  Students will have a list of rules for the contest as well.

We will be taking our Social Studies test over Geography and Climate on Wednesday.  We will be playing a review game in class on Tuesday.

This Thursday is an 11:35AM dismissal.  It will also be our first Positive Behavior (PBS) Assembly.  All students will attend and those that have received Coaler Cash throughout the school year will be able to use those to try to win other prizes at the assembly.

Week of October 15th

With the holiday on Monday and our Brookfield Zoo field trip on Tuesday, we have a very shortened week.  Here is some important information:

Tuesday - Brookfield Zoo Field Trip - Make sure to pack a disposable lunch and dress appropriately for the weather.  PSO tickets are due today.

Wednesday - Topic 4 Math Test, CCIS Musical Meeting

Thursday - Reading Selection Test

Friday - Tech Day - Students may bring a piece of technology in to use at different points throughout the day.  Students are responsible for their items.

Week of October 7th

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, October 24th, and Friday, October 25th.  I will be handing out the sign-up schedules to the kids to take home.  Conference sign-ups are on a first come/first serve basis.  Please give me your top 3 choices, and I will do my best to try to get you one of those times. 

On Wednesday of this week the 4th grade will be walking to the high school to watch part of the middle school’s performance “Annie.”  We will be leaving at 8:15AM and returning about 10:30AM.  Also, Wednesday is 'wear pink' day in honor of breast cancer awareness month.

Pick-up for those students that sold candy apples is Thursday from 3:00-4:30PM after school at the Intermediate School.  Students are responsible to pick-up all of their orders.  

PSO Fundraiser tickets are to be turned into the office by Tuesday, October 15th.  If a student has sold all of their tickets and would like more, they can pick those up in the main office.

This week is Fire Prevention Week.  The Coal City Fire Department will be visiting a few times throughout the week to discuss fire safety.  This is a good time to review escape routes and fire safety plans at home with your children.  

We will be having a Region Quiz on Friday over the Midwest Region.  There are 5 important cities for the students to know.

Week of September 16th

Here is some important information for this week:

Monday in Math we will be reviewing and taking our practice test for Topic 2.  Our actual test will be Tuesday.

This week in Reading our story is “Letters Home from Yosemite.”  This is our final story of Unit 1.  Next week we will be reviewing for our first Unit Skills Reading test.

We are continuing on with our current Science (Plants and Animals) and Social Studies (Geography & Climate) units.

Just a reminder, picture day is this Friday, September 20th.  Several students have already turned in their picture forms.  If you would like to send in your child’s form before Friday, I will hold on to it and give it back to them before pictures.

Week of September 3rd

This week in Science we will continue with our plants and animals unit.  We will be discussing the different life cycles of plants.  On Tuesday, we will be doing a lab where we will be observing different types of fruits.  We are finishing Topic 1 in Math.  We will be taking our practice test on Thursday and our first math test on Friday.  Student will again have a spelling project due on Friday.  We will be taking a Social Studies quiz on Friday over important countries.  Students have already received their study guides.

This Friday, August 30th, we will be holding our Student Council Elections.  We will be electing 1 boy and 1 girl from our class as first semester student council representatives.  In order to run for Student Council, each candidate must give a short speech on why they should be elected.  After speeches are given, we will then vote.  If a student is not elected, they will be allowed the opportunity to run for our 2nd semester representatives in January.  Those students that decide to run can create posters to hang up in the classroom or right outside our classroom, however, student are NOT allowed to pass anything out (candy, goodies, etc.) as part of their campaign.  Student council meetings are at 7:30AM before school on the following days:
