Week of October 20th

Tomorrow our class will be going to the CCIS Book Fair.  Students received information about the book fair last week.  If students would like to purchase books, they should bring in money with them tomorrow.  We will be going from 11:15-11:45AM.  Parents are welcome to come in during that time if they would like to shop with their son/daughter.  The book fair will also be open during Parent/Teacher Conferences if you would like to stop in during that time.

Just a reminder that Candy Apple pick-up is Wednesday after school from 3:00-4:30PM.  Any students that sold candy apples are required to pick up their entire order and distribute them.

Wednesday of this week will also be "Wear Pink Day."

Thursday of this week is an 11:35AM early dismissal.  Please discuss with your child how he/she will be getting home.

Week of October 14th

CCIS T-Shirt orders are due this Friday.  If any student would still like to purchase one of the shirts, please send that money in by Friday.  Kids shirts are $10.

Candy Apple orders were due last Friday.  Just a reminder that pick-up for the candy apples is Wednesday, October 22nd from 3:00PM-4:30PM.  Students that sold candy apples are required to pick up their entire orders.

Our second CCIS School Store will be in operation tomorrow morning from 7:40-8:05AM.  Students that wish to shop at the school store may arrive early to make purchases or they can go as soon as they get here in the morning.

This Friday the Student Council is sponsoring Crazy Hair day.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are next Thursday and Friday, October 23rd & 24th.  I will be sending home information about scheduling conference times probably tomorrow.  It is really important that we have an opportunity to meet to discuss your child's progress.  If any of the scheduled times do not work for you, let me know and we will be able to schedule another time to your convenience.

This week we will be taking our Topic 4 Math test on Wednesday and our first Social Studies test on Friday.  Students will be receiving a study guide today for their Social Studies test.  We will also play a review game in class on Thursday.

Those parents that have been selected to chaperone the field trip to the Brookfield Zoo have already been notified.  Thank you to all of the parents that volunteered.  Unfortunately we cannot take all parents with us, however I will keep those that volunteered and were not selected in mind for any future trip we take that requires chaperones.

Week of September 29th

We have a lot of testing that will be taking place this week in our classroom.  Last week we finished Unit 1 in reading therefore we will be taking our Unit 1 Skills Test this week.  During the week of a Unit Skills Test, there is NO SPELLING TEST and also no weekly story that we read.  In this new reading series, the Unit Tests are quite lengthy.  We will begin taking our reading test tomorrow, continue it on Wednesday, and use Thursday to finish it if the additional time is needed.

Tomorrow we will be playing a review game in class for our Unit C Science Test.  We will be taking the test on Wednesday.  Students have two review items they can be using to study – their Unit C Review Sheet and also their Crossword Review which I will be handing back today.

Last week we completed Topic 3 in Math.  We started our practice test on Friday and will be finishing that today before we take the test this afternoon.  This test will be completed on-line, therefore students will not have an opportunity for corrections on this particular test.

The Candy Apple fundraiser continues this week and next week. Orders are due Friday, October 10th.  Please return all orders and payments by that time.

This Friday is "Chicago Sports Team Day" at CCIS.  Students are encouraged to wear clothing representing their favorite Chicago sports team.

1st Trimester Midterm reports will be sent home this week.  Just a reminder that we are only halfway completed with the first grading period.  I discussed with the students that there is still plenty of time for grades to be changed – both in a negative and positive way.  If students are happy with their current grades they need to continue working hard in order to keep their grades where they are at.  On the other hand, if students are not content with their current grades, there is still plenty of time for them to bring their grades up.

On Wednesday, October 1st, Mrs. Vignocchi will be hosting the first CCIS School Store of this school year.  Students can bring in money and shop to purchase different items.  Mrs. Vignocchi went through the different items that will be available for purchase with the students during their library time last week.  The store runs from 7:40-8:05AM.
